“My scourge is being born into the wickedest majority that ever lived: the white, middle-aged, straight male. We haven’t any colourful stories of prenatal abuse to excuse our bad behaviour, nor do we have dreadful childhoods on which to blame our lack of emotional involvement-mine was remarkably banal in a middle-class sort of way. Everything is our own fault and we’re expendable. After all, we are a majority.”

“Adam Milgate’s story was this body of work. We had been on a job in the Northern Territory and word had reached us via the bush telegraph that there had been a car crash in Sydney in which a work associate and his family were involved. The message was “only the father died”. As we sat on a plane coming back from a job in the Northern Territory, he thumped his pain into the keyboard of his laptop of being ‘only a man’.”
