Jeff St John started his singing career in 1961 as a regular feature vocalist on Channel 9 in Sydney on the teenage variety program ‘Opportunity Knocks’ hosted by Desmond Tester. He achieved national fame with bands The Id with its top ten single ‘Big Time Operator’ and Copperwine with its top ten hit ‘Teach Me How To Fly’ in the late 60’s. Writing his own music and lyrics, Jeff performed and managed his solo career between 1972 and 1982, being the first artist outside the US to be released on the ASYLUM label with his hit single ‘Fool In Love’. Using his celebrity identity to the benefit of the community, he was a Social Educator with the Royal North Shore Hospital between 1984 and 1989, writing and teaching disability education courses aimed at primary and high school age children and instigating the subsequent creation and production of TV and radio advertising campaigns. Jeff and Bee met at the Newport Arms in 1990 when he seduced her with stories while doing an impression of Irish writer Brendan Behan. Since then, he has been a self-employed musician and the latest highlight in his music career has been performing the first 2 songs at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Opening Ceremony. The latest highlight of his life is Jeff and Bee’s marriage! Bee leads a quiet life trying (unsuccessfully) to stay out of the limelight! Jeff has Spina Bifida.
