Upgrade our mobile arts hub

Expanding our impact and addressing a broader spectrum of social issues, we aspire to replace our existing mobile arts hub with a more versatile, multi-purpose design. We are seeking funding for the revolutionary Romotow-designed arts hub, a vehicle to tow it, plus wages for the 4 artists and 2 administrators who will be activating the arts hub across regional and remote Australia. The new MUTTI Arts Hub aims to make a profound social impact throughout regional New South Wales, home to 265 towns with a combined population of approximately 3 million. Through MUTTI’s proposed 3-year activation across 27 regional and remote towns, we expect to attract 27,300 people as audience members or art therapy workshop attendees. By involving 52 regional schools, the hub enhances education on social issues, promoting advocacy and cultural sensitivity among youth, demonstrating MUTTI’s deep commitment to community involvement and dialogue.

Local councils and service providers are also integral to the project, with 81 partnerships helping to amplify its reach and impact. In an innovative approach to community care, the hub provides 8,100 meals through free sausage sizzles, supporting local marginalised residents, many of whom are homeless. Additionally, 270 dignity bags containing personal hygiene products are distributed to marginalised women, allowing them to choose a bag that meets their personal needs, thus respecting and enhancing their dignity. The new MUTTI Arts Hub will be an accessible, inclusive space that bridges gaps between artists, survivors, and local services, inspiring meaningful conversations and actions that promote awareness, healing, and social change. Through collaboration and engagement, the MUTTI Arts Hub amplifies the power of art to unite, heal, and drive progress within communities.

MUTTI’s new mobile Arts Hub offers those who engage opportunities to learn new skills and make new connections that can enhance their senses of identity, purpose and belonging, improving personal and community resilience. Collaborating with diverse communities and empowering local voices to raise awareness, MUTTI’s new mobile Arts Hub will promote improved community engagements and understandings that support social harmony and cohesion throughout urban, regional and remote Australia. This vision is built on learnings gained from touring the UNSEEN Arts Hub in NSW demonstrating the need for a more flexible, functional, durable mobile arts hub to meet the demand expressed by regional and remote communities to access collaborative cultural activities and creatively respond to a diverse range of social concerns beyond the single topic of women’s experiences of homelessness.

“There is untapped potential in cultural and creative engagement across leisure, recreation, work and study to reconnect communities and rebuild belonging and trust, including within the cultural sector itself, more now than in recent memory.”

A New Approach (ANA) is Australia’s leading arts and culture think tank - March 2025

Replacing our existing mobile Arts Hub with a purpose-built revolutionary fold-out Romotow design, that includes an accessible gallery, production studio, performance and cinema spaces, improves its longevity while increasing MUTTI’s collaborative opportunities when touring urban, regional and remote communities to share, through art, diverse lived- experience stories that raise awareness of community concerns while offering audiences enriching, engaging cultural experiences. This greatly expands our capability to provide a fit for purpose platform for displaying artworks, screening films; performances, yarning circles, artist talks and panel discussions; and, in its onboard production studio, recording first-person stories, interviews and podcasts.

The new MUTTI mobile Arts Hub provides communities a ‘soft entry’ for people to engage, through art, with a range of difficult issues: reconciliation, family violence, veterans’ trauma and suicide, and the discriminations faced by LGBTQIA+ communities, and people with disability. An artwork itself, the Arts Hub is a drawcard for visitors for whom an immersive and enriching journey of discovery then unfolds as they participate in creative workshops and engage with art, artists, service providers and community organisations.
