Bring the UNSEEN Arts Hub to your community

At the heart of our outreach is the mobile UNSEEN Arts Hub, led by women with lived experience of homelessness who travel across Australia with the arts hub, bringing innovative exhibitions, workshops and events directly to local communities. Its success to date is the co-designing of each activation with local artists, community leaders and service providers ensuring that a vibrant community centre, uniquely relevant to its audience, is created. It is as much a celebration of local talent as it is an opportunity for individuals to encounter new perspectives and challenge their own understandings of who becomes homeless and why. This approach strengthens communal bonds at a personal level, fostering deeper connections and conversations that resonate with local audiences, providing a voice to those who feel unheard. In turn this sparks community-driven conversations about interventions and solutions. For many communities, the UNSEEN Arts Hub’s presence encourages continuous engagement with the arts and dialogue on crucial social issues long after the mobile hub has moved on.

If you would like to bring the UNSEEN Arts Hub to your community please reach out. Click the button below to view a prospectus that details the exhibitions, workshops and activities that are held at the UNSEEN Arts Hub.

“Being amongst a group of women who support me in telling my story is so empowering and validating. And having a creative medium to do this breaks down the barriers and anxiety that words and text can bring. I’ve been able to connect with myself, connect with some of my past and let it go. It’s part of my healing journey."

Jai Jaru - Founding member of the UNSEEN Women Artist Group

Launched on International Women’s Day and activated in Sydney’s CBD throughout 2020, the UNSEEN Arts Hub, led by women with lived experience of homelessness, drew a media response that saw 8 million views of the news.com article about the project. The UNSEEN website had 6,500 page views that same day. Media responses occurred across online, print, radio, television, and social media, with follow-up coverage by news.com drawing 29.6 million viewers globally. Being activated in public spaces with high foot traffic, thousands of people had the opportunity to learn about homelessness and its causes.

The Arts Hub’s accessible, inclusive spaces bridge gaps between artists, survivors, and local services, inspiring meaningful conversations and actions that promote awareness, healing, and social change. UNSEEN’s Arts Hub was then activated in Sydney metropolitan areas, including Parramatta and Randwick, in the nation’s capital, Canberra, as well as in 5 regional and remote towns in the state of New South Wales, highlighting the demand for cultural and arts programs designed to address social cohesion. Alongside our art exhibitions and installations are workshops on millinery, photography and patchwork, together with poetry slam events, film nights, trauma-informed yoga and Indigenous cultural activities, including dancing, weaving and coolamon-making.

The UNSEEN Arts Hub complements and amplifies government and local NGO investment directly by creating new pathways for service delivery, enhancing and strengthening existing service use, and providing opportunities for clients to enter support services earlier to reduce their reliance on services as they chart a pathway to independence. These impacts have significant human benefits and reduce long-term dependence on the system of services. By upgrading our regionally touring arts hub, we aim to replace our current infrastructure to better serve diverse communities across Australia.

In November 2023, MUTTI’s UNSEEN Arts Hub was the runner-up in the Art and Homelessness International Awards in the Co-Creation Champion of the Year Category, with its competitors being the Museum of Homelessness in London and the New York Theatre of the Oppressed.

Current exhibitions

An exhibition at NSW Parliament House Fountain Court Gallery of artworks created by the women of the UNSEEN project, coinciding with Homelessness Awareness Week, is currently on display from
5–29 August 2025. The works exhibited have been generated during the activation of the UNSEEN Chrome Tiny House and Chrome Car between March and July 2020-2025. These arts hub activations have offered an innovative opportunity to empower women who have experienced homelessness as artists, protagonists and advocates to share their experiences with the broader community.
